The Good with the Bad

Kids are great, but you definitely take the good with the bad (or really just the not-so-good).

Kids will do the not-so-fun chores. Leland loves to clean the toilets, collect the trash cans from all the rooms to be emptied, and fold clothes. Believe me we will take advantage of it for as LONG as possible. Something tells me that at 13, she will not get really excited about getting to clean the toilets.Kids also like to create messes. Lucy started yelling "Oh No!" from her bedroom. When I came to see what was wrong, I found all the tissues from a new box piled on the floor. She had this look on her face like "I don't know how this happened?" She did help stuff them all back into the box.Now I know that in comparison to things that I have heard from friends and sisters, tissue on the floor is small beans to what a lot of kids do to your homes. But I'm sure you are like me and you are willing to take the bad with the good, because we love our kids so much.

  1. Haha, isn't it amazing how kids will just suddenly lose their short-term memory? "I don't know" is the response to nearly every question around here. Can't believe how old your girls are both looking!

  2. That's funny - taking the BAD with the good is definitely worth it. Hearing Leland's sweet voice on the phone always cheers me up if I having a particularly "taking the bad" heavy day.

  3. It just cracks me up, but I know how you feel about the chores. We are for sure going to use up Jace's love of doing the dishes until he won't somewhere in his teenage years as well, I'm sure. But I think I could do without the emptying of the wipes box. Kids? What can you do, but it's great!

  4. When they get older you might be able to make a game of it using their favorite stories. My sister Gretchen and I used to pretend we were the orphans in the Annie movie (from the 80's with Albert Finney and Carol Burnett - awesome!) as we cleaned the house top to bottom every week. We even had the soundtrack playing on a little portable tape player. I think the task took us longer because we had to pause to negotiate the story some but I remember enjoying it.
